Title: Place/Displacement: Micro-Narratives
In 2021, I participated in “Place/Displacement: Micro-Narratives,” an international workshop developed through a collaboration between the University of Sheffield School of Architecture and the École Nationale Supérieure d’Architecture de Paris-La Villette, supported by the French Embassy in the UK. Working in this research environment enabled me to engage with questions of migration, displacement, place, and representation through an architectural perspective, and to reflect on how narrative methods can open new ways of thinking about social and spatial experience.
This experience was particularly meaningful to me as it brought together architecture, critical storytelling, and cross-cultural academic exchange. As a PhD candidate at the University of Sheffield, having completed my MA in Architectural Design with Distinction in 2021, I valued being part of a workshop that explored how architecture can respond to humanitarian and social realities beyond conventional design approaches. It strengthened my interest in research-led practice and in using architectural thinking to address issues of identity, community, and displacement.
